Tokyo Day 3 - (8.29)
While I was having my delicious lunch, I realized I forgot to bring the map to Kappa-bashi, the "kitchen street" (道具街) in Ueno!! I've wanted to pay a visit to see all the kitchen/baking supplies as well as the famous plastic food samples, but without a map, it was quite hopeless... therefore, I gave up on it after cursing myself a few times... and telling myself: "save it for another trip"!
It was then time for yet another unexplored area of Tokyo: Odaiba (台場). It was our first time there so I don't know if there was a special event on that day or only because it was a weekend, but there were lots of people! We took the Yurikamome and it was extremely crowded, and HOT! Luckily, we got seats on both the to and return trips.
Starting off at DECKS, we visit "Little Hong Kong" and "Muscle Park". Little HK is certainly very little... but quite cute! I especially like the idea of the "Train dim sum" restaurant, which is super original... combining the idea of dim sum and sushi on a conveyor belt! I think it might be something we can import to the States, if we can find a way to keep the food hot and fresh!
H and I totally enjoy Muscle Park, even though we did not play any of the games. But just watching the participants (kids and adults alike), we can't help but admire the nature of the games. It's so educational and healthy, it's a great way to spend some time on a weekend with friends and family! We totally recommend it for people visiting the area.
We try to stay indoor, away from the scorching heat, so keep on shopping to Aqua City, except for a couple of pictures of the Rainbow Bridge and mini Statue of Liberty. Even though it was the last weekend for the 1:1 Gundam exhibit, we were just too tired and hot to bother walking over to check it out... (what an exhausting trip!
)
When it came time for our return trip at the Odaiba station, we just couldn't believe our eyes... there was a HUGE lineup going into the station... H estimated an hour wait, but we ended up only waiting 30 minutes. Everything was very well organized and people disciplined (except for the few loud Mainland Chinese tourists), but I seriously think better commute planning needs to be put in place.
At a station, we see poor Jiji, separated from her owner! But someone was nice enough to pick her up and install her in a nearby crate... sweet.
For dinner, we get something that we haven't had yet on this trip, tempura. Not wanting to look, we simply settle for the chain store Ten-ya (天丼), quick and easy, and not too bad!
Even if we're too tired and lazy to look for food, we never are for sweets! After dinner, we quickly walk back to TOBU, in search for dessert to bring back to the hotel.
We picked this Chocolate Roll and Italian Cheesecake from C3 Fresca Delizia, not knowing anything about the brand. Personally, I think the chocolate roll was uncharacteristically chewy, while the Italian cheesecake resembled a Japanese steamed cheesecake with some very lemony foam on top... both tasted good, but there are certainly better cakes than that in Japan!
